Trust is fragile, and when it’s broken by betrayal, it can feel like an impossible task to rebuild. As the partner of a sex addict, you’re navigating a path that is painful and confusing, but you don’t have to do it alone. Rebuilding trust is a process that requires honesty, accountability, and openness from both partners. It’s not about rushing back to where things were; instead, it’s about creating a new foundation, built on truth and mutual respect. Healing may feel slow, and there may be setbacks along the way, but every small step forward matters. Give yourself grace as you navigate this journey, and remember, you are worthy of trust being rebuilt on solid ground.
The journey to overcoming sex addiction is one that demands work, time, and a willingness to change. One crucial element often overlooked though, is accountability. True healing happens when there’s consistent support and accountability in place. In this video, Dr. Doug Weiss shares his expertise on how to establish meaningful accountability, why it matters, and the role it plays in a lasting recovery journey.

New Research Alert: A recent study published in Sexuality Research and Social Policy (Sept 2024) sheds light on the serious health impacts of betrayal trauma on partners of those with compulsive sexual behaviors.
One finding that struck me: 100% of study participants reported adverse health effects, though the types and severity varied. Here are some impacts they faced:
- poor sleep,
- migraines,
- dissociation,
- eating disorders,
- weight fluctuations
- autoimmune issues,
- hair loss,
- self-harm,
- suicidal thoughts,
- increased medication use,
- Impaired movement, and/or
- sexually transmitted diseases.
This study highlights the need for early medical intervention and specialized care to address the physical toll betrayal trauma can take.
