Betrayal Trauma First Responder
Online Training
In every church community, individuals are silently suffering from the effects of compulsive unwanted sexual behaviors & partner betrayal trauma. Ministry leaders are often the first people these individuals turn to, yet many feel ill-equipped to respond effectively.
This online training is designed to equip pastors, ministry leaders, lay leaders, group leaders and others who simply want to learn more, with foundational understanding and practical skills to serve as faith-based first responders—providing immediate spiritual and emotional support, while recognizing when to refer for professional care.
Training Topics Include:
- Understanding Partner Betrayal Trauma (PBT) – Learn the basics of trauma: what it is, how it affects the brain and body, and how it manifests in behavior and relationships.
- Sexual Addiction & Partner Betrayal Trauma in Faith Communities – Explore the unique challenges PBT survivors face within spiritual settings, including issues of trust, spiritual abuse, and shame.
- The Role of the First Responder – Clarify what your role is—and isn’t—as a faith leader. Learn how to listen well, respond without causing harm, and walk with someone through their first steps of healing.
- When and How to Refer out to Professional Coaches or Clinicians.
- Gain insight into recognizing signs that indicate the need for professional mental health intervention and learn best practices for referring individuals to trusted counselors and therapists.
- Creating a Safe Space – Understand how to foster an emotionally and spiritually safe environment where individuals feel seen, heard, and supported.
We welcome Pastors, ministry staff, small group leaders, lay counselors, women’s and men’s ministry leaders, and anyone who desires to be a safe and informed presence for those experiencing partner betrayal trauma.
